Senior Advocate Pinky Anand has been appointed as a judge of the Bahrain International Commercial Court (BICC), which is scheduled to commence operations on November 5. Anand, who served as Additional Solicitor General of India from 2014 to 2020, brings over 40 years of extensive legal experience to the new international bench.

The BICC, modelled after the Singapore International Commercial Court, will handle complex commercial disputes in English and Arabic, offering appellate options either through Singapore’s international committee or a dedicated BICC appellate tribunal depending on language and party agreement.

Anand has also acted as an arbitrator internationally and represented India at BRICS legal forums. With her appointment, the BICC bench now comprises 17 judges, including seven women. Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, expressed delight at Anand’s appointment, emphasizing its significance for India’s global legal standing.

Anand will continue her legal practice in India while fulfilling her judicial duties for the BICC through remote work or periodic visits to Bahrain.
