The Allahabad High Court has restrained the Uttar Pradesh government from carrying out further demolition of the Noori Jama Masjid in Fatehpur district. A Division Bench of Justices Atul Sreedharan and Arun Kumar passed the order on a petition filed by the mosque’s managing committee, which reported receiving a demolition notice and that part of the mosque had already been demolished.

The State counsel provided an undertaking that no further demolition would occur until the next date of hearing. Nonetheless, the Court directed that no demolition activity shall proceed till then and listed the matter for urgent hearing on November 17, 2025.

The government had contended that demolition was necessary for widening the road, a process it claimed was complete. However, the mosque’s representatives argued that the road widening was incomplete and without protection, the mosque risked further demolition ahead of the hearing.

The mosque management was represented by Advocates Azim Ahmad Kazmi, Mohd Saleem Khan, and Syed Azeem Uddin. The mosque had suffered partial demolition in December 2024 over alleged encroachment, prompting prior court pleas that were withdrawn with liberty to refile.
