About the Internship
The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) conducts a Winter Internship Program to promote human rights literacy and awareness of safeguarding protections under Section 12(h) of the Protection of the Human Rights Act, 1993. The program spreads awareness across varied social sections and encourages human rights engagement.
Duration of the Programme
- From 15 December 2025 (Monday) to 9 January 2026 (Friday)
Eligibility
- Students currently in 2nd or 3rd year of the 3-year LL.B. course
- Students who have completed 3rd and 4th years of the 5-year LL.B. programme (3+2 system)
- Must submit attested photocopies (by Head of Department) of mark sheets for first two semesters (3-year LL.B.) or 5th & 6th semesters (5-year LL.B.)
- A 300-500 word write-up on “Reason for joining as Intern in MSHRC” is mandatory, and serves in the selection process
- Preference given to students demonstrating research potential in human rights
- Merit based on semester averages and write-up scores
- Students previously participating in any MSHRC Winter Internship Program are ineligible
Number of Seats
- 30 seats available, plus 5 waitlisted seats for Mumbai region for replacements late admission
Programme Structure and Activities
- Interaction with Hon’ble Chairperson and Members of MSHRC
- Classroom sessions on human rights topics, research methodology, mental health, report writing, etc.
- Assistance with court hearings and legal wing activities of the commission
- Human Rights project work
- Book reviews at MSHRC library
- Visits to jail, ashram shala, children’s home, NGOs, and police stations
Rules and Regulations
- Registration required on arrival
- Mandatory daily attendance without breaks
- Attendance recorded in registers
- Interns must carry their college Identity Card
- Dress code: black trousers and black shirt or college-prescribed uniform
- Certificates awarded based on attendance, discipline, participation, presentations, debates, field visit reports
Facilities Provided
- Bag with reading materials, notebook, pen, pencil
- Library access
- Group internet access
- Printing facilities for project reports
- Tea and high tea on all working days (excluding field visit days)
Stipend
- Rs. 2,500 for successful completion
Travel & Accommodation
- Interns to arrange their own lodging, food, and transport for the duration
