Kaul, a professor of International Relations at the University of Westminster, filed a writ petition which is scheduled for hearing on November 25 before Justice Sachin Datta.

Kaul, who has Kashmiri Pandit roots, studied economics at SRCC (Delhi University) and holds a joint PhD in Economics and Philosophy from the UK. She has extensively written on Kashmir, nationalism, and Hindutva and testified before the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs about human rights in Kashmir after the revocation of Article 370.

In February 2024, Kaul was denied entry and deported from Bengaluru airport despite holding a valid UK passport and OCI card, after being detained for about 24 hours. Her OCI status was revoked in May 2025 with the government accusing her of “anti-India” activities and targeting Indian sovereignty through her writings and speeches.

Kaul’s petition has been filed through advocate Aadil Singh Boparai and remains a developing story.
