About the Internship

The Permanent Bureau of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) offers 3-6 month legal internships to assist staff in daily work and deepen knowledge of private international law. Interns gain practical experience across HCCH conventions and projects; applications open for Sept 2026–Feb 2027.

Conventions and Projects

Family and Child Protection Law Division: 1980 Child Abduction, 1996 Child Protection, 1993 Adoption Conventions; Parentage/Surrogacy; 2000 Protection of Adults; 2007 Child Support; Recognition/Enforcement of Protection Orders.

Transnational Litigation and Apostille Division: 1961 Apostille (e-APP), 1965 Service, 1970 Evidence, 1980 Access to Justice, 2005 Choice of Court, 2019 Judgments Conventions; Jurisdiction Project.

Commercial, Digital and Financial Law Division: Central Bank Digital Currencies, Carbon Markets, Digital Tokens/Economy Projects; 1985 Trusts, 2006 Securities Conventions; 2015 Choice of Law Principles.

Eligibility

  • Current law students (Bachelor’s, Master’s, JD, PhD) or recent law degree holders.
  • Preference for later-stage Bachelor’s students.
  • Indian students eligible; rank preferences for divisions in application.

Language & Duration

  • Fluency in English, French, or Spanish (other UN languages advantageous).
  • Duration: 3-6 months.

Stipend and Accommodation

  • Unpaid; interns cover travel, expenses, accommodation.
  • PB provides accommodation tips and registration support post-arrival.

Application Procedure
