The Bombay High Court, by order of Justice Sandeep V Marne, has directed Meta Platforms (owner of Facebook and WhatsApp) and other defendants to remove online posts that linked jewelry brand Malabar Gold and Diamonds to Pakistan. The Court passed the order on September 29 after Malabar Gold faced a social media campaign relating to its engagement of UK-based influencer Alishba Khalid, following her public criticism of India’s military operations.

Malabar Gold clarified that Khalid’s engagement was prior to controversial statements and her subsequent disengagement was immediate upon learning of her political views. Despite this, several defamatory posts were circulated connecting Malabar Gold with Pakistan, allegedly to damage festive season sales. The company submitted a list of 442 URLs to the Court carrying the offending content.

Justice Marne found clear grounds for an ad-interim injunction, restraining Meta and associated parties from permitting further publication of such defamatory material and specifically ordering the deletion of all URLs listed in the plaint. Malabar Gold may report additional URLs to platforms, while any disputes over removal can be brought back to the Court. The injunction remains until November 11, 2025, pending further hearing.
