About the organisation
• The International Foundation for Crime Prevention and Victim Care (PCVC) is a Chennai-based NGO and domestic violence service provider.
• It offers crisis intervention and long-term psycho-social support services for women, trans, and queer survivors of intimate partner and family violence.
• Services include a 24×7 National Domestic Violence Hotline, emergency and long-term shelters, economic empowerment programs, counselling, and referral support.
About the fellowship
• The NEETHI Lawyers’ Fellowship is a two-year program led by PCVC.
• Aim: To strengthen access to justice for marginalized communities in Tamil Nadu.
• Fellows receive mentorship, courtroom experience, and specialized training in social justice and intersectional legal practice.
• Focus: Effective representation of vulnerable groups, particularly women and queer individuals, in complex legal challenges.
Eligibility
• Law degree and enrollment with the Bar Council of India.
• 1–3 years of legal practice experience.
• Preferably under 30 years of age.
• Preference for applicants from marginalized communities, including gender, caste, and sexual minorities.
• Must be willing to relocate to one of the following districts: Chennai, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), Madurai, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, or Salem.
• Willingness to travel within assigned district for court appearances, field visits, and engagement with civil society organizations.
• Full-time commitment for the 2-year duration.
• Fluency in Tamil required.
Work profile
• Provide legal guidance and representation for marginalized communities.
• Draft and research legal documents, including petitions and affidavits.
• Attend training, peer exchanges, and reflective review sessions.
• Work closely with mentors to develop practical skills and courtroom expertise.
• Build local legal networks and engage with civil society organizations.
• Monitor and report on cases handled, contributing to program learning and evaluation.
• Gain exposure to diverse social justice issues through field visits and program activities.
