About the Opportunity
• Dive into the world of public law with this hands-on internship by the Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law & Justice
• Designed to familiarise budding legal minds with real-world legal research, court processes, referencing, and advisory work
• Get exposure to diverse legal domains including constitutional, administrative, finance, labour, infrastructure, arbitration, and more
Eligibility
• Open to Indian nationals with a passion for legal learning
• Law students: Must have completed 2nd year of a 3-year LL.B. or 3rd year of a 5-year integrated course
• Law graduates from recognised universities are welcome
• Bonus points for those skilled in MS Office, Adobe tools, or data visualisation platforms
Duration
• One month (commencing from the first working day of each month – plan ahead!)
Application Procedure
• Submit your application via the Internship Portal of the Department of Legal Affairs
• Upload all required documents along with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) if you’re currently a student
• Law graduates can upload a final year certificate in place of the NOC
• Deadline to apply: July 9, 2025 (by 5:00 PM sharp) – don’t miss it!
Selection
• Only 50 candidates are chosen each cycle – make your application count
• Shortlisted candidates will be notified via the portal or email
Deployment Locations
• Main Secretariat, New Delhi
• Central Agency Section – Supreme Court of India
• Litigation High Court Section – Delhi
• Branch Secretariats located in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru
Report Submission
• A research report must be submitted to Admin-I (LA) by the end of the internship
• The report should summarise the work and learning outcomes during the internship
Certificate of Internship
• Certificates will be issued only after successful completion
• Attendance of at least 90% and a positive performance evaluation are musts
• This is a full-time, physical internship – be ready to commit
Honorarium
• An honorarium of ₹1000 will be awarded upon successful completion – a small token for your contribution
Terms & Conditions
• Accommodation is not provided – make arrangements accordingly
• Working hours: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM
• Adherence to official rules, decorum, and confidentiality norms is mandatory
• Signing of a Non-Disclosure Agreement is compulsory
• The internship does not imply a future job offer
• No parallel internships or jobs permitted during this period
• Access to the office library is limited to referencing only
• Formal dress code applies: white shirt and black trousers
• Entry passes to be coordinated with respective sections/offices
