• The Department of Legal Affairs is a department under the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India.
• It was established in 1961.
About the opportunity
• DOLA organises an Internship Programme for young law students and graduates.
• The programme acquaints participants with the working of the Department by training in research and referencing, court functioning, and legal advisory work in fields such as constitutional and administrative law, finance law, infrastructure law, economic law, labour law, conveyancing, arbitration, and contract law.
Eligibility
• Indian students who have passed 2nd year of a 3-year law degree course
• Indian students who have passed 3rd year of a 5-year law degree course
• Persons who have completed a law degree from any recognised college/law school/university
• Advanced computer knowledge (MS Office, infographics, Adobe, etc.) preferred
Duration
• Internship duration: 1 month
• Commences from the first working day of every month (unless otherwise specified)
Procedure to apply
• Submit application form along with relevant documents and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from college/university
• Applicants who have completed their law graduation need not submit NOC
Selection
• 50 candidates invited for each month’s internship until all shortlisted applicants are accommodated
• Shortlisting details will be communicated through Internship Portal/email
Deployment
• Selected interns will be deployed with officers/sections at:
• Main Secretariat, New Delhi
• Central Agency Section at Supreme Court
• Litigation HC Section at Delhi
• Branch Secretariats at Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru
Location
• Multiple locations: New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru
Submission of report
• At the end of the internship, interns must submit a monthly report and assigned research work to Admin-1(LA)
Certificate of internship
• Certificate will be issued on satisfactory completion
• Minimum requirements:
• 90% attendance
• Satisfactory remarks from the concerned authority
• This is a full-time, in-person internship (9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday)
Termination
• Department may terminate the internship at any time without assigning reasons
Terms and conditions
• Interns must arrange their own accommodation
• Formal dress code: black trousers with a white shirt
• Interns must follow departmental rules, confidentiality protocols, and sign a non-disclosure agreement
• Library access limited to reference only (no borrowing; photocopies permitted)
• Internship does not imply employment with the Department
• Unsatisfactory performance may lead to discontinuation
• Interns must inform the Department if they disengage early
• Entry passes to be collected from relevant offices/sections
Honorarium
• Rs. 1000/- on successful completion of internship
