About the Opportunity
The Johnson & Johnson Law Department is hiring a Legal Counsel to work on-site in Mumbai. The position reports to the Country Lead Counsel for Medical Devices India and offers a dynamic opportunity to advise on high-stakes legal, regulatory, and commercial issues across business verticals.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Provide legal counsel and strategic guidance to the Medical Devices operations of JJMI
• Independently advise Franchise leaders on legal and compliance matters
• Assist in crafting legal strategies for GTM models and New Product Introductions
• Address legal risks through proactive training, communication, and mitigation strategies
• Influence leadership with strategic legal counsel for compliant decision-making
• Ensure compliance with Indian laws and industry codes relevant to JJMI operations
• Support M&A and licensing transactions, including due diligence and documentation
• Engage and manage outside counsel, including setting budgets and protocols
• Handle litigation, dispute resolution, and investigations as directed
• Guide JJMI employees on J&J’s Code of Business Conduct, FCPA, HCC, etc.
• Design and deliver policy trainings in consultation with Country Lead Counsel
• Collaborate with global, regional, and sectoral legal teams to align practices
• Advise on advertising, promotional materials, and digital compliance
Eligibility Criteria
• LL.B. or LL.M. from a reputed Indian university/law school
• 6–10 years PQE, preferably in multinational or healthcare sector (not mandatory)
• Strong written and spoken English
• Prior experience advising senior business leaders is advantageous
• Proven ability to apply ethical decision-making aligned with J&J’s Credo
• Team player with openness to varied roles and adaptability to change
• Excellent interpersonal skills and capability to manage complex legal challenges
• Global mindset with experience or comfort in cross-border legal environments
• Strong business acumen, consultative approach, and structured thinking
• High ethical standards and proactive compliance orientation
