About the Position

The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), Bengaluru is seeking a Senior Associate – Legal & Regulation for its Bengaluru office. This full-time position focuses on legal and regulatory matters, supporting a wide range of institutional activities including contract management, compliance, advisory, and research related to the not-for-profit sector as well as urban law and higher education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal and regulatory support on contracts, procurement, tenders, and construction agreements (Works, Design-Build, PPP).
  • Advise on transactional aspects, including IPR, documentation, litigation support, memos, and opinion writing.
  • Conduct legal and regulatory due diligence, process drafting, and support litigation as needed.
  • Research and analyze legislative and policy developments, central and state, affecting higher education and urban law.
  • Draft and update institutional processes, policies, and regulations.
  • Undertake rigorous research on contracts, labor law, privacy, taxation, and related areas.
  • Contribute to academic and training programs across IIHS activities.
  • Ensure timely and effective compliance reporting and documentation.

Reporting Structure

The Senior Associate will report to the Chief – Legal & Regulation or an assigned authority at IIHS, and will coordinate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and students.

Person Specification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B. minimum).
  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience, preferably with not-for-profit sector exposure.
  • Strong drafting, analytical, and research skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent written English and effective communication in Hindi/Kannada.
  • Experience with government regulatory procedures and interdisciplinary environments.
  • Ability to handle deadlines, litigation, and rigorous research assignments.
  • Exclusive role: Cannot undertake conflicting professional assignments.
