Kerala High Court closes plea over Hijab controversy after student leaves school
Court deems petition infructuous following withdrawal by student and family from St Rita’s Public School
The Kerala High Court has closed proceedings in the petition filed by St Rita’s Public School challenging government directions that permitted a Muslim student to wear a hijab in class. The case was closed after the student and her parents decided to discontinue studies at the institution and enroll her in another school.
The petition, filed by the school management, had contested administrative orders allowing the student to wear the traditional Islamic headscarf on campus, citing institutional dress code standards. However, with the student’s decision to leave the school, the issue ceased to require judicial intervention, and the Court declared the matter infructuous.
