The Kerala High Court has directed state authorities to take stringent action against illegal modifications of vehicles and the practice of filming videos inside drivers’ cabins while the vehicle is in motion, which pose severe safety risks. The Division Bench of Justices Anil K Narendran and Muralee Krishna S initiated the suo motu case after noticing videos showing a moving vehicle’s driver’s cabin recording preceding an accident that caused a crash with significant damage.

The Court noted that these unsafe practices endanger passengers and other road users. Despite previous orders, violations continue, prompting the Court to instruct the Transport Commissioner, Deputy Transport Commissioners, enforcement officers, and the State Police Chief to ensure strict enforcement of safety standards and penalize offenders promptly.

The Registry was ordered to forward all relevant video clippings reviewed during the hearing to the Transport Commissioner of Kerala and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways officer responsible for road safety for further investigation and reporting on statutory violations.
