Wife of Sonam Wangchuk Moves Supreme Court Challenging His Detention Under NSA
Petition Filed Seeking Release of Activist Detained Amid Ladakh Statehood Protests
Gitanjali J Angmo, wife of activist and innovator Sonam Wangchuk, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA). The plea was filed on October 2 through advocate Sarvam Ritam Khare. Wangchuk was arrested on September 26 in Ladakh amid protests and violence related to demands for statehood for the Union Territory.
Currently, Sonam Wangchuk is being held in a jail in Jodhpur. The Supreme Court’s schedule for hearing the petition is uncertain as the court is on vacation for the Dussehra festival week. The petition seeks intervention regarding the legality and conditions of his detention.
