The Voluntary Internship Scheme provides undergraduate/postgraduate law students and scholars practical experience in legal reform, policy development, and legal modernisation at the Law Commission of India. Selected interns engage directly in drafting, analysis, and review processes shaping national legal policy.

Eligibility

• 2nd/3rd year 3-year LL.B. or 2nd-5th year 5-year integrated law students
• LL.B., LL.M., research students
• One application per financial year only

Mode & Place of Work

Primarily at Law Commission office, New Delhi. Hybrid/remote permitted at discretion based on circumstances.

Duration

4 weeks (extendable to max 8 weeks with supervisor recommendation and Chairperson approval).

Application Requirements

• Updated CV
• Scanned institution ID card
• Signed/stamped recommendation from professor/dean
• Latest/last marksheet

Selection Process

Screening committee evaluates:

• Academic performance
• Statement of Purpose quality
• Slot availability (max 12 interns at a time)

Reporting

Email notification; report with:

• Valid ID proof
• Passport photo
• Original recommendation letter
• Original marksheet

Nature of Work

• Legal research on legislations/judicial decisions/Law Commission reports
• Draft research papers, consultation reports
• Compile case laws, statutes, comparative materials
• Participate in seminars/discussions
• Assist Chairperson/Members/Research Officers
• Submit research paper/presentation at end

Attendance & Conduct

• Min 75% attendance (below = no certificate/extension)
• Strict confidentiality required
• Violations lead to termination/adverse remarks

Logistics

• Unpaid (self-funded travel/accommodation)
• Bring own laptop/stationery
• Facilities: Library, databases, internet, workspace (subject to availability)

Certification

Issued post-evaluation of research paper/presentation and performance.
