About the Opportunity
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Rajasthan, in collaboration with National Law University Jodhpur, is inviting applications for one Research Associate and one Research Assistant under a sponsored research project titled “Electoral Management Bodies and Media-Based Voter Education: A Comparative Analysis of Regulatory and Institutional Provisions Worldwide to Design a Global Standard Model.” The project focuses on comparative research to develop a practitioner-oriented global resource on elections, election management, and media-based voter education.
Project Details
The project is being executed through a Sponsored Research Project awarded to NLU Jodhpur, with final reporting to be published by IIIDEM under the Election Commission of India. The selected candidates will work under the guidance of the State Thematic Group, the Chief Electoral Officer, Rajasthan, and the Principal Investigator at NLUJ.
Positions and Remuneration
- Research Associate – 01 position, consolidated remuneration of Rs. 30,000 per month.
- Research Assistant – 01 position, consolidated remuneration of Rs. 10,000 per month.
Eligibility
Research Associate:
- Master’s degree in Political Science, Journalism, Mass Communication, Law, Public Policy, Public Administration, or allied disciplines with at least 55% marks from a recognized university.
- UGC NET qualification or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
- Research experience in electoral law, regulation, media voter education, or comparative democratic governance.
- Preference for candidates with published papers in Scopus / UGC CARE List journals or policy publications.
Research Assistant:
- Postgraduate degree in Political Science, Journalism, Mass Communication, Law, Public Policy, Public Administration, or related fields with at least 55% marks from a recognized university.
- Familiarity with research methods and documentation.
- Prior research or internship experience related to elections, media studies, or disability/rights frameworks preferred.
Duration and Mode
The engagement is contractual for the duration of the project, approximately three months, and is co-terminus with the project timeline. The nature of engagement will be largely online, with offline engagement at the campus and in the field as required. The positions are based at NLU Jodhpur and/or the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Rajasthan.
Roles and Responsibilities
Research Associate:
- Lead qualitative and quantitative research on electoral management bodies and media-based voter education.
- Conduct literature reviews and global evidence mapping using sources such as International IDEA, IFES, UNDP, ACE Network, The Carter Centre, EISA, and OSCE/ODIHR.
- Identify cases, develop structured case models, and carry out comparative analysis.
- Coordinate consultations, workshops, and structured dialogues.
- Assist in drafting the thematic report, policy briefs, and research presentations.
- Support surveys and questionnaires for Election Management Bodies through IIIDEM.
Research Assistant:
- Assist in data collection, field visits, and documentation.
- Prepare survey instruments, interview tools, and questionnaire formats.
- Compile and synthesise research findings from secondary sources and EMB websites.
- Support statistical and qualitative data analysis.
- Assist in drafting interim reports, literature reviews, and background material.
- Maintain research documentation, data files, correspondence, meeting schedules, and minutes.
Code of Conduct
Selected candidates must maintain integrity in research, preserve confidentiality, avoid independent publication of any part of the research, remain neutral and evidence-based, disclose conflicts of interest, and comply with IIIDEM’s terms regarding copyright and professional conduct.
