About the Opportunity

Pratham Books is inviting proposals for a three‑year independent research study on “Open Books, Open Minds”, its gender‑responsive reading programme being implemented across 250 government schools in Maharashtra. The study aims to evaluate the impact and working of the programme on children’s reading behaviour, gender‑responsive learning environments, and equitable access to reading materials.

Scope and Focus

The research will use mixed‑methods approaches (quantitative and qualitative) to assess programme outcomes, including children’s engagement with books, classroom practices, and how the gender‑responsive design influences learning experiences and gender attitudes in school settings. The study will inform learning, documentation, and evidence‑based improvement of the programme across Indian school contexts.

Who Should Apply

Research organisations, academic institutions, and independent research teams with demonstrated expertise in mixed‑methods research, gender‑focused evaluations, education or literacy studies, and prior experience working with children in government‑school contexts in India are invited to submit proposals. Entities must have capacity to design, implement, and manage a multi‑year, large‑scale field study.

Duration

The proposed research engagement is for a period of three years, aligned with the implementation cycle of the “Open Books, Open Minds” programme in Maharashtra.

Submission Deadline

Proposals must be submitted by 30 May 2026.

Application Procedure

Interested organisations or research teams should follow the official proposal‑submission instructions and timelines provided on the application link. Proposals are expected to include research design, methodology, sampling, data collection and analysis plans, timelines, team details, and budget, as specified in the call.
