
About the Opportunity
The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) is inviting applications for internships under The Pendency Lab, a research initiative that studies court efficiency and judicial delay in India. The internship offers an opportunity to work on questions at the intersection of law, economics, governance, and public policy under the supervision of Shubho Roy.
Eligibility
Open to undergraduate and postgraduate students with a strong interest in law, economics, governance, or public policy; quantitative and research skills are an advantage. Prior coursework or research experience in related fields is preferred.
Mode and Location
Hybrid or remote, associated with the Chennai‑based Pendency Lab, with project work linked to CSEP, New Delhi.
Duration

Nature of Work
Interns will conduct research on court efficiency and judicial delay, including court‑level data analysis, case‑management processes, and institutional drivers of pendency; assist in drafting analytical notes, briefs, and presentations; and support the design of evidence‑based reform proposals for the Indian judiciary.
Stipend and Benefits
Interns may receive a monthly stipend (reported around ₹10,000 per month at CSEP); access to a multidisciplinary research environment; and opportunities to engage with scholars, legal practitioners, and policy makers. A certificate of internship may be issued upon successful completion.
