
About the Opportunity
The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) was created by the United Nations Security Council to perform essential functions previously carried out by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). The Mechanism maintains the legacies of these courts and promotes best practices in international criminal justice, operating from Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania, and The Hague, Netherlands.
Eligibility
Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). No age restriction is specified.
Areas of Work
Internships are offered in International Criminal Law, Public International Law, International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights Law, Criminal Law, and Criminology.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct independent legal research; analyse laws and policies; assist legal officers in preparing for witness examinations; help draft decisions, orders, or legal submissions; classify and prepare evidence; assist in tracking fugitives; assist in negotiations; and support Judges during hearings.

- A written work sample, preferably in a field relevant to the Mechanism, not exceeding ten pages.
