
About the Opportunity
The Voluntary Internship Scheme of the Law Commission of India provides undergraduate and postgraduate law students, as well as law scholars, practical experience in legal reform, law and policy development, and legal system modernisation. Selected candidates engage directly with drafting, analysis, and review processes shaping Indian legal policy.
Eligibility
Law students pursuing 2nd and 3rd year of three-year LL.B. programme, or 2nd to 5th year of five-year integrated law degree from recognised college/law school/university. LL.B., LL.M., and research students eligible. Candidates can apply only once per financial year.
Duration
Ordinarily four weeks, extendable up to eight weeks on intern’s request subject to supervising officer recommendation and Chairperson approval.
Mode of Internship
Ordinarily at Law Commission office in New Delhi; hybrid/remote options at competent authority’s discretion based on circumstances and work nature.
Selection Process
Screening committee selects based on academic performance, Statement of Purpose quality, and slot availability. Maximum 12 slots ordinarily; Chairperson may alter.
Nature of Work
Conduct legal research on legislations and judicial decisions; research Law Commission reports; assist drafting research papers, consultation reports; participate in seminars; compile case laws, statutes, comparative materials; assist Chairperson, Members, Research Officers; submit short research paper or digitised presentation.
Application Requirements
Updated CV; scanned institution ID card; scanned signed/stamped recommendation letter from professor/dean; scanned latest/last marksheet.
Reporting Requirements
Selected candidates notified via email; report to office with valid ID proof, passport-size photo, original recommendation letter, original marksheet.
Key Rules
- Minimum 75% attendance mandatory; below leads to no extension/certificate.
- Unpaid; interns bear all costs, bring own laptops/stationery.
- Strict confidentiality; violations cause termination, adverse remarks.
Facilities
Library access, legal databases, internet, workspace (subject to availability).
Certification
Issued post-internship based on research paper/presentation evaluation and overall performance.
